géis: /ɡeɪs/
géis is a form for the framing of a music event that functions as a Deep Listening gathering; where the dramatic potentials of improvisational practice sharpen the experiential focus of the present moment. Focus on engagement in an active and exposed process as an experience, and exploration of the potentialities and present components of a space; animal, object, space, and atmosphere. Here form is softly woven through gathering, with these components organically and temporally bonded as participants in a new process: becoming a unique amplifier for the transient experience. The word originates from the Irish for spell, taboo or blessing. Within mythology géis or geasa have an essential function within narrative: commonly spoken by wise women of power or the othered/queered body, they activate motion and initiate purpose within the temporality of the story.
