Utilising the harp, voice, electronics and percussion, Méabh McKenna (she/they) is a multi-instrumental sound artist based in Dublin city
Interested in cultural resonance and translations of identity, the formation and fragility of self narratives, oral histories, awakening the archive, collections and gathering, mythology, and science fiction, their work focusses on the harp as an instrument of performance.
2024 saw the introduction of new project géis, which explores collaborative improvised noisemaking with Elaine Malone and Eleanor Myler. A passionate collaborative musician, Méabh has a new project with acclaimed box player Seamus Hyland featuring feild recordings, improvisation and personal interviews. Another new collaboration includes performance of harp and electronics with fiddle player Ultan O’Brien.
2025 will see the release of a debut album with new band Throwing Shapes, a new group formed with R. F. Chaney and Gareth Quinn Redmond utilising live electronics and wire strung harp, drums, and synthesisers.
Méabh has worked with song writers such as Aoife Nessa Frances, Maija Sofia, and Julie Byrne, while exploring collaborative performance art with artists such as Isadora Epstein and Maïa Nunes.
With a Art in the Contemporary World Masters in Fine Art from NCAD, Méabh also holds a Bachelor in Music Performance from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, specialising in Pedagogy and carries a deep passion for music education and outreach.
